Because the uncoupling membrane for FLEXTHERM floor heating systems replaces your second plywood. Therefore, you can install your ceramic or porcelain tiles on the membrane without adding height.
Specially designed for the FLEXTHERM XL Green Surface Cable, the FLEXTHERM membrane has uncoupling, vapour management, and load distribution properties.
Uncoupling
The uncoupling membrane neutralizes longitudinal movement between the subfloor and the tile to prevent tile cracking. It provides uncoupling thanks to its open cavity structure, which allows horizontal movement and effectively neutralizes movement stresses between the substrate and the tile, preventing tile cracking. The membrane makes it possible to install a floor heating system even on problematic substrates such as wood and cracked but stable substrates.
Load distribution
The uncoupling membrane’s patented design ensures that the floor covering load is evenly transmitted to the subfloor. Each rounded square stud has a central cavity in the shape of an inverted pyramid. When filled with thin-set mortar, this inverted pyramid becomes an incompressible structure. These cavities act as pillars in the supporting structure.
Vapour management
The uncoupling membrane’s patented design creates air pockets between the subfloor and the membrane. Excess moisture from the subfloor will find its way into these air pockets and a vapour cycle will be created. This cycle will balance the subfloor’s moisture content, which will help protect the tiles from potential damage and make it possible to install a floor heating system even on substrates that are not completely dry or are sensitive to moisture such as wood, concrete, and gypsum subfloors.
